
Donald Baird, PhD
Dr. Baird is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of New Brunswick and Fellow of the Canadian Rivers Institute. He has over 40 years experience working in the field of aquatic ecology with a particular focus on ecological risk assessment. With his team, he has carried out research in many countries from Europe and the Americas to Australia and South Asia, focusing on studying and mitigating impacts within the aquaculture, mining, oil & gas and agricultural sectors. With others, he is pioneering the use of environmental DNA in ecological assessment, and its application in ecosystem conservation and management. Over his career, he has provided advice to a range of national and international organisations, including FAO, UNDP, Ramsar, the European Commission and national government agencies.
