John Darling, PhD

Dr. Darling is a recognized leader in environmental DNA (eDNA) and environmental genomics, with more than two decades of experience supporting biodiversity monitoring and management. During over 20 years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he helped develop and apply genomic tools to inform decision-making across invasive species surveillance, aquatic bioassessment, and biodiversity protection. He has been a long-standing advocate for the responsible integration of eDNA into biomonitoring programs and contributed to the development of the U.S. National Aquatic eDNA Strategy in 2024, helping shape a practical roadmap for the future of eDNA.
